On April 13, 2023, D-CAL, in collaboration with Panerai Watches and Beach Please India, organized a student participatory beach clean-up at Mumbai’s Dadar Beach. This initiative aimed to engage volunteer students in collecting harmful plastic and other non-degradable beach litter, fostering environmental responsibility and awareness among the youth.
Objectives of the Cleanup
A. Revitalize the Shoreline: Removing waste to give a new breath of life to the immediate shore environment.
B. Protect Marine Life: Improving the surroundings for beach critters and removing obstructions from their habitat caused by plastic litter.
C. Prevent Microplastics: Controlling the formation of micro-plastics resulting from the breakdown of plastic waste due to wave action and exposure to harsh sun rays.(Stand Up to Trash)
Participant Experience
For the participants, the cleanup was a sobering experience that brought them face-to-face with the harm humans are causing to nature. It served as a catalyst, encouraging them to think and act responsibly towards the environment.
