DY Patil University launches D-CAL (D.Y. Patil Climate Action Lab) with a Panel Discussion on Environment, Sustainability & Action

On July 16, 2022, D.Y. Patil University proudly inaugurated the D.Y. Patil Climate Action Lab (D-CAL), a dedicated initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness and action among students and the broader community. The launch event featured a panel discussion titled Only One Earth, emphasizing the urgency of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.(India Today)

About D-CAL 

D-CAL is a community within D.Y. Patil University committed to combating climate change by  romoting information sharing and actionable initiatives. The lab is spearheaded by Ms. Rajlakshmi Patil, a 19-year-old geography student at University College London and a passionate environmentalist with a history of organizing environmental activities in India and Switzerland. Her  notable contributions include a successful Mangrove Cleanliness Drive in 2019 and the founding of  the Charity Soccer League in 2018 to support pediatric healthcare.(Dcal, India Today)

Moderated by Ms. Rajlakshmi Patil and Dr. Bhavika (Assistant Professor, D.Y. Patil School of Medicine), the discussion engaged 850 students in topics such as waste management, bio-waste segregation, beach cleanliness, pollution-free lakes, and tree plantations. The panelists shared actionable insights, encouraging minimalistic lifestyles, rainwater harvesting, and active participation in environmental conservation efforts.(Dcal)

Event Activities

• Sapling Plantation: The event commenced with the planting of saplings by the panelists, symbolizing a commitment to a greener future.

• Green Takeaway: Each student received a sapling to nurture, reinforcing the message of individual responsibility in environmental stewardship.
