At Dr. D. Y. Patil University, the spirit of community service was on full display as students and faculty united under the national movement — Swachhta Hi Seva 2024. In line with the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Education, DYPU Pune conducted a series of impactful activities from 15th September to 2nd October 2024, culminating in the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.
The Campaign Vision
Swachhta Hi Seva is not merely a cleanliness drive; it is a civic movement rooted in the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing individual and collective responsibility towards environmental hygiene. With the 2024 theme, “Garbage Free India” (Kachra Mukt Bharat), the campaign focused on community-based cleanliness and sustainability initiatives.
DYPU’s Commitment in Action
Across the campuses — including institutions like DY Patil School of Engineering, Polytechnic, Pharmacy, and more — the SHS campaign saw active engagement in a variety of activities:
- Campus & Community Cleanliness Drives
Students and faculty members conducted thorough cleaning activities in and around campus premises, including classrooms, labs, roadsides, and community spaces. The emphasis was on visible transformation and instilling a habit of cleanliness.
- Shramdaan: Voluntary Labour for the Nation
A key highlight was the mass “Shramdaan for Swachhta” organized on 1st October 2024, where students enthusiastically took part in cleaning drives in public areas, contributing their time and effort toward a garbage-free India.
- Awareness Campaigns
Awareness rallies, poster-making competitions, and social media campaigns were conducted to sensitize people about cleanliness, waste segregation, and the hazards of plastic usage. These campaigns were designed to extend the message beyond the campus and into the surrounding communities.
- Student Participation and Reflection
Each activity was marked by strong student involvement. Their reflections, photos, and feedback demonstrate a deepened understanding of the values of community service and environmental responsibility.
